An essential concern ofPatryce Bak‘sphotography is the blurring of
boundaries between reality/ fiction and between fiction/ artifice. Her
investigations in photography and sculpture manifest in a visual
language of familiar symbols within constructed spaces absent of
inhabitants, but rich with objects that incite meaning. By depicting
everyday objects set against an ambiguous background of illusion,
these images reflect a psychological tension rooted in discomfort. In
this way the imagery becomes uncanny as it interprets familiar terrain
in an unusual way and thoughtfully questions themes of: dislocation,
remembrance, interior/exterior.
